Laura Ziock Memorial Exhibit
Laura Ziock joined SMW in 2009, after relocating to Oak Ridge, Tennessee from California. She hold several elected and appointed positions in the guild. Over the years, she had been a faithful volunteer for the annual quilt show. She also taught quilting classes at several of the local quilt shops as well as at Quick Cut Quilts which she co-owned with Anne Schulz.
Laura’s “Blue Ombre” quilt is an original design and was one of her favorites. On display are just a few of the manu quilts that she has made over the past several years.
Laura is sadly missed by her family and friends.
Quilts of Valor
The Quilts of Valor is grateful to Smoky Mountain Quilters for its sponsorship. During the show, guests signed quilt blocks thanking a veteran for his or her service. These blocks are later sewn into a quilt and presented to a worthy veteran.
Ronald McDonald House Quilts
Through the years members of Smoky Mountain Quilters have volunteered many hours making quilts for children of all ages who are undergoing treatment for life threatening health issues. The Ronald McDonald House offers accommodations to the families of these children. More than 1,000 quilts have been donated by our members since the onset of this project. Some quilts are created by a single individual but more often quilt tops are sewn during a group sew-in, quilted by another volunteer and perhaps bound by yet another volunteer. Here is a sample of some of the recently completed projects.
