Cabins at Valley Forge
from the 2007 American Patchwork Quilting Calendar (November)
10" x 12" finished block
Scrap of beige tone on tone print, cut to
3"x5"
Fat eights of assorted prints of browns, rusts, golds, salmon, tans,
brick or dull reds
To assemble the block:
Cut the assorted colors into 2" strips, WOF. You will need 10 strips.
1. Sew one strip to one side of the 3"x5" rectangle. Trim. Press the
seam allowance toward the strip just added.
2. Add a second strip to the top of the new unit. Press seam allowance
toward the strip just added. Trim.
3. Continue to sew the 2" strips to two sides of the rectangle, always
pressing toward the new strip just added, trim, until the block measures
10-1/2" by 12-1/2", including seam allowances. There should be five
rows of strips on the two sides of the initial 3"x5" rectangle.
Each strip should be a different fabric to make a very scrappy quarter Log Cabin.
