Categories:
A. Bed
Quilts, Pieced and Quilted - Suitable for use on a bed; smallest side minimum is 60
inches.
B. Bed Quilts, Mixed Techniques or Appliqued and Quilted - Suitable for use on a bed; smallest side minimum is 60 inches.
C. Wall Quilts, Pieced and Quilted - Designed for hanging as a wall display.
D. Wall Quilts, Appliqued and Quilted - Designed for hanging as a wall display.
E. Wall Quilts, Mixed Techniques and Quilted - Contains significant amounts of both piecing and applique; designed for hanging as a wall display.
F. Art Quilts - These quilts are expected to be entirely original in design, produced with creative thought and without replicating the work of others. They also exceed tradition in construction and appearance.
G. Small Pictorial - A quilt that illustrates a recognizable image (for example: animals, people, floral, landscapes, etc); perimeter of 160 inches or less.
H. Large Pictorial - A quilt that illustrates a recognizable image (for example: animals, people, floral, landscapes, etc); perimeter exceeds 160 inches.
I. Miniatures - Utilizing the design elements and techniques
of a
full size quilt, this entry is scaled to miniature proportions. Not to exceed
24 inches per side.
J. Kids -
Made for use on a child's bed
K. Other - Quilt entries that do not fit into any of the categories previously listed. Included in this category are yo-yo, cathedral window, crazy quilts (tied), whole cloth, embroidered quilts, kit quilts and block
of the month patterns/kits.
L. Junior - Quilt made entirely by a child, age 16 or younger; not judged. Participation ribbon only.
M. Two Person Team, Small - Two quilters work on the quilt; includes quilt for hire; smallest side less than 60 inches.
N. Two Person Team, Large - Two quilters work on the quilt; includes quilt for hire; smallest side minimum is 60 inches.
O. Group -
Any quilt created by members of a creative team of three or more quilters.
Rules:
- Entries must be quilted unless otherwise specified.
- Quilt is defined as three layers: top (fabric) batting and backing (fabric)
- Entry must be completely constructed and quilted by the individual on the entry form except for quilts entered in Group, Two Person or Other.
- All persons who worked on the quilt must be listed on the entry form (design, construction, quilting, etc.)If not an original design, credit must be given.
- All entries must hang for the duration of the show and may not be removed for any reason prior to designated pick up time.
- No special hanging requirements and no rigid framing allowed; quilts may be folded during handling.
- Entries must arrive clean, undamaged and odor free.
- SMQT reserves the right to reject, recategorize or not display inappropriate entries (soiled, damaged, misrepresented, unqualified, etc.)
- Entry fees for entries that are disqualified or not delivered are non-refundable.
- The judge will have the final say in disputes involving categories and reserves the right to not award all of the ribbons/prizes.
- Quilts must have been completed in the last five years.
- Previous entries in SMQT shows are not allowed.
- Quilts without proper labels and sleeves will not be accepted.
- Entries are limited to a maximum of five entries per entrant and one per category. (Based on ownership of the quilt.)
