Quilting Bees

Quilting bees are a good way to get to know fellow quilters in a small group setting. Each of these bees are independent and the rules are set by the members of the bee.  Membership in Smoky Mountain Quilters (SMQ) is usually optional.  Please contact the web master with corrections or additional quilting bees that may be of interest to SMQ members.

Tuesday Bee
Tuesday Bee meets every Tues. 10:00-2:00 at Cokesbury Church, 9919 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37922 (the former Lowe’s store on the north side of Kingston Pike). They meet in Room 500. Everyone brings their lunch and anyone with a birthday brings treats/dessert to share. Tuesday Bee is canceled if Knox County schools close or if there is a holiday. Members of this group typically are also members of SMQ. There is no official charge but regulars donate approx. $60.00 yr. or $5.00 a month to the church for the privilege of having a bright comfortable room in which to meet. Donating members are added to the email distribution list. Members bring handwork to the Bee which is not limited to quilting – some are knitting, some are doing embroidery, etc.

Thursday Bee
Thursday Bee meets every Thurs. 10:00-2:00 at Cokesbury Church, 9919 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37922 (the former Lowe’s store on the north side of Kingston Pike). They meet in Room 500. The focus of this bee is sharing creativity and helping each other. Members of this group typically are also members of SMQ but it isn’t a requirement. There’s no guest policy as long as you are a nice person who likes to make things. And it doesn’t hurt to be a little on the crazy side. We don’t like rules very much. What happens at Bee, stays at Bee! Everyone brings their own lunch and something to work on. Anyone with a birthday brings cake or dessert to share. Bee is canceled if Knox County schools close or if there is a holiday. There is no official charge but a donation box is passed around for use of the room. Donating members are added to the email distribution list. Sometimes the group works on a group project, and participation is up to the individual.

Quilts of Valor Bee
A bee to support the Quilt of Valor meets at Doyleen Taylor’s house on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. They meet from 10am to 2pm.  Bring your own lunch if you plan on staying a while. This group has open membership and there is no fee, just a willingness to volunteer time, talent, and/or fabric to this worthy cause. Contact Doyleen for more information.
