QUILT TURNINGS OF ANTIQUE QUILTS with MERIKAY WALDVOGEL The always popular [antique] quilt turning sessions are returning again this year. At these special features of our show since their inception in 2008, Merikay Waldvogel surprises us with a group of antique quilts, many of which have never been shown publicly before.
Along with a team of quilt history colleagues (Becky Harriss, Cindy Stuart and Jan Wass), Merikay will date the quilts based on the quilts’ fabrics, patterns and styles. Expect to hear some good stories and learn something about dating old quilts. Visitors may bring quilts to show if time permits. Photos may be taken and questions/comments from the audience are encouraged. There is no additional charge for this event. Merikay Waldvogel is a nationally known quilt collector, researcher and writer. Her books include: Quilts of Tennessee, Soft Covers for Hard Times, Patchwork Souvenirs of the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair, and Southern Quilts of the Civil War. In 2009, she was inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame for her work as a quilt historian and author. She has been a member of Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee since 1986. Quilters' Scavenger Hunts are popular with both kids and their adults!

Just A Little Bull
by Ann-Marie Miro - Clayton, Georgia
African animals were embroidered. Fabric discharge of color and repainted to represent “words” of advice whispered to the little bull elephant. Adults are always giving advice to children no matter what the species is?
Inspired by a pattern from Sandra Mollon.
